Is a DBA or LLC better in NYS for a lawn care business?

I am currently starting up a lawn care business, I live in upstate NY. I am wondering what license i should get to legalize my business. DBA is significantly cheaper than an LLC ( $700 plus). So what should i get to protect my name and such. What are the pros and cons of both. Basically what is the best bet to get for starting out. Can I also convert the DBA to an LLC in the future if my business takes off
