Bass guitar sounds better with a headset than just the amp please look?

So when I plug in my cheap little 6$ headset I got at goodwill, it sounds 2x better than without a headset plugged into it. The slap/pop is more vibrant and nice sounding the tone is deeper and nicer. So my question is, is my amp speaker ****** or what is going on. I ask this question a second ago, and people said it got fried but I havn't used it for more than 3-4 weeks and I never turn it up loud or even close to frying it.
